High-Availability/Redundancy

The ISD Payment Switch Framework is a high transaction volume, high availability solution that can be configured to meet a variety of redundancy requirements. The Framework can be configured in a variety of fault tolerant scenarios to provide the uptime requirements demanded by a particular customer. Redundancy can be achieved through any combination of in-store dial back-up and hot (load balanced), warm and/or cold server back-ups. ISD works with customers to define and provide the most appropriate configuration for their mission critical payment solutions.
Mission Critical Fault Tolerance Options

ISD provides several options for fault tolerant solutions, each designed to integrate with existing network and enterprise architecture. These are:

  • Alternate Circuit Failover – designed to provide resiliency between the ISD Payment Switch and the merchant’s payment processors.
  • Store Level Network Dial-Around – designed to insure that a store can continue accepting electronic payments in the event of the loss of a data center or the loss of WAN (Wide Area Network) connection to a data center.
  • Warm Standby – designed to provide an alternate instance of the ISD Payment Switch, normally in a passive state. When integrated with ISD’s Hybrid Capture settlement this option provides a simple yet powerful solution to “no single point-of-failure” requirements.
  • Hot Active – designed to meet the most stringent resiliency requirements. ISD’s Hot Active Fault Tolerance is designed around multiple active instances of the ISD Payment Switch. The switch instances can be located in a common location, or in alternate locations to provide for geographic resiliency.
  • Continuous Availability Servers – ISD is fully certified on continuous availability hardware, such as the Stratus ftServer® line.
In order to insure proper transaction settlement with any of ISD’s High-Availability/Redundancy solutions, ISD recommends implementation of its unique “Hybrid Capture” technology, which insures that the store POS (Point of Sale) drives all settlement traffic. This solution provides the added benefit of insuring that store data and Enterprise Transaction Switch data are 100% synchronized, removing a layer of reconciliation from the merchant’s workload.

Using ISD software, we reduced our average processing time for credit card purchases from over 30 seconds to approximately 2-3 seconds per transaction."
